Graduate Tracer Study of Uganda’s National Instructors College Abilonino (NICA)
This graduate tracer study of Uganda’s National Instructors College Abilonino (NICA) is the very
first of its kind. It was commissioned by VVOB and directly involved representatives from NICA
and the Teacher Instructor Education and Training (TIET) department of the Ministry of Education
and Sports (MoES). Its aim was to gain insights into the employment situation of NICA graduates
with special focus on those who joined the BTVET teaching workforce, their self-assessment of
skills acquired, and which improvements would be required.
Two key reports emerged from the study. This first report helps understand the path taken by
NICA students that graduated in years 2016/17 and 2017/18. The second report will present the
career trajectories of the graduates of the Agriculture department as a special interest group of
VVOB’s Teaching Agriculture Practically (TAP) programme.
